GIPSIL, Foundation and Turning Lives Around (then called Leeds Housing Concern) first came together in 2013 to deliver a city-wide service for vulnerable young people in Leeds, which we called Flagship.
Flagship ran successfully for seven years, initially housing 150 young people and offering pre-tenancy and resettlement support to another 255. From 2016 Flagship expanded to include the Archway Resource Centre on Roundhay Road and the Archway young people's floating support service, as the result of a merger and subsequently were delivered by GIPSIL.
Throughout its lifetime, Flagship worked closely with fellow services Leaving Care Team at GIPSIL and the 24/7 emergency accommodation provided by Turning Lives Around. The three partners built strong bonds which underpinned their shared values to enable young people to reach their full potential and embed restorative practice throughout the services.
In 2018, Flagship services continued to grow to include intensive, seven days a week support to 20 care leavers and vulnerable young people housed by GIPSIL.
In 2019, Leeds City Council put all of these services, and other young people’s specialist 24/7 group living schemes in the city out to tender as a single service.
Working closely together, and in consultation with the young people we support, the Flagship partners designed a service which would meet commissioners' requirements and the needs and aspirations of young people.
At the suggestion of young people, we called it 'Our Way Leeds', with a cheeky nod at the Leeds Owl symbol.
